Operail’s team came second in the largest hackathon in Estonia

Added on 13.11.2019

On 5–7 November, a programming marathon or a hackathon took place in Estonia. Operail’s team participated with the aim of developing a solution to help our locomotive drivers carry freight more efficiently in the future.

Within the two days, Operail’s team developed a DAS (Driver Assistant System) solution, which will provide information and instructions to our locomotive drivers, for example about which gear position, speed, and driving style to choose to make transporting freight even more efficient. Operail’s team achieved the 2nd place in the tight competition of the hackathon held over several days.

The largest hackathon in Estonia was organised in cooperation with the Tallinn Science Park Tehnopol within the framework of the World Congress organised by Junior Chamber International Estonia. Hundreds of people from all over the world took part in the hackathon.

Operail was represented by Julia Grobova, Ksenia Zakharenkova, Polina Miina, Margus Õun, Sambeet Mishra, Urmas Peterson, and Sergey Likhachev. For 50 hours, our team was joined by programmers from Japan and a marketing specialist from Finland.

After the hackathon, we invited the developers who contributed to our idea to visit us and showed them our headquarters in Tallinn as well as the Muuga depot.

We would like to thank the members of our team for their excellent work! Special thanks go to Olev Küla and Leonid Vätson for their advice.
